British Foreign Office Agent
|Behind the scenes|
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Benjamin Fry was an agent for the British Foreign Offices.
Fry was sent to the O'Connell Manor to speak with Rick and Evelyn O'Connell, stating that the Foreign Offices preceded all that the couple had done during the war, but Fry had been sent to offer the couple one final assignment. Evelyn replied that she and her husband had since retired from espionage, but Rick, interested in knowing what the mission was, asked Fry what the intended mission was. Fry replied that the Foreign Office needed the O'Connells to courier an artifact to Shanghai: the Eye of Shangri-La, which had been smuggled out of China in 1940 and was to be returned to the Shanghai Museum as a sign of good faith in China and its people.
Evelyn, however, reluctantly insisted that she and her husband had since given up espionage for their retirement; Fry replied that it was disappointing, as China after the war was considered dangerous, with many factions after the Eye, and under the wrong possession, the Eye might be lost. Evelyn reconsidered, on the grounds that her brother, Jonathan Carnahan owned a night club in Shanghai, and they could visit him while they were in Shanghai, dropping off the Eye. Fry asked whether this confirmed their decision or not, and Evelyn replied that it had: she and her husband would leave for Shanghai.
